Very bad idea for SSB...

"How much will we lose, by restricting new posters?"
SSb does not yet have the reputation of BJ21. Any restriction that may cause a prospective "buyer" to even slightly "back off" and think about it will be in most cases a lost client. This business is much too competitive. Restricting access to registered users would only serve to slow down the growth of SSB... and that's a fact!

First rule in web marketing:
DO NOT require a prospect to register before buying, and that's anything on the 'Net not just sports picks.

There are some sites that do, but not the successful ones... unless you are another Sams Club, it won't help, but will hurt (sales).
