I'd wait to see the pools before I would place those. If it is a minus pool, betting him to win would be better than a 1-20 odd place or show bet. I know there are people who flood the show bets on an "obvious" horse, just to get that dime per $2, but there are better plays to be made. My friend hit 2 monster show bets at Lone Star last year because someone dumped a load on a horse to show that finished out of the money. He just sat and watched the tote, saw it, thought that horse was marginal, and placed 2 $50 show bets, one on the horse he was going to bet to win, and one on a late closer. The "obvious" horse didn't come in, and the show bets payed out more than the win ticket, in the $50 range for a $2 bet.
