In Response To: rethinking Triple Crown no bet (ricky)

As a more than occasional horseplayer, I understand why you would have taken the NO @ -950. I've watched the Triple Crown races, as well as the preps, and didn't see War Emblem coming either. I was impressed by his Chicago race, but thought he would stumble in the Preakness, as he looked somewhat one-dimensional.

Those of you who were impressed by Magic Weisner saw a mirage. WE ran a 46 second half, made a strong middle move to put away the pressers, and then was able to hold off the closer. All three types of horses(early, presser, and closer) took their best shots, and came up short.
This horse may not be Seattle Slew, but he is the best of this bunch.

My only suggestion is potetially hedging with some straight exactas with WE on top, if you have to hedge. Better horses have been in his position, and come up short. The Belmont is by far the toughest of the three to win, but his style does play well here(contrary to what most of the public thinks), and the pace will be to his liking.

If I were you, I would probably watch. If I lost, at least I saw history.
