Knowing all the rules before you bet.

I bet on the Cards to win the NL Central with 6 games left, when they were one game behind the Astros.
Since I had already seen the coin flip determining a potential playoff site, I foolishly assumed that if the Astros and Cards were tied at the end of the season, they would play a one game playoff.
Cards picked up two games on the Astros in the Brewers and Giants series to go up by one game going into the final 3 game series. Then I see a footnote that the tiebreaker will be head-to-head matchup during the regular season-- and the Astros have a big lead so they will win if they take 2 of 3 in St Louis, despite being tied at the end of the year. So essentially, the Cards started this series only 0.5 game up on the Astros, and when I bet on them they were actually 1.5 games out with 6 to play.
Of course, I would probably still be happy if the Cards had pulled out the win last night, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get high enough odds if I'd understood the situation.
Oh well. Go Cards!
