Before we sensationalize the records of Stanford and company, perhaps we should remember the records of departed friends. I recall a frequent poster named Perry or somesuch (Zoso would remember) who claimed to be a professional bettor and posted a disastrous baseball season. With enough attempts, some people will be in the upper tail. But others will be in the bottom tail. We are dealing with a censored sample of survivors.

By the way, VegasInsider lets you easily click on handicapper bios and records. This shows some integrity. The aggregate records are bad. In particular, Ken White hit around 50% while he hit 70% winning the Barley's contests. He claimed he added some weaker picks for the Barlay's contests and won them all, but that was a lie. Rob Crowne (and Trace Fields) assert White actually submitted picks in the contest opposite his VegasInsider picks. This isn't dishonest, but it is slimy to suggest you could emulate White's record using VegasInsider.

There are always lots of would've's, should've's, and could've's, but a monitored record really hurts performance.
