Beards: Legal or illegal in Nevada?

Don Schlesinger sent me a list of changes he suggests making in Sharp Sports Betting. Among the changes he suggests is modifying my definition of "beard" on page 349. Currently the book says "A beard is a person who makes sports bets for someone else; that someone else is usually a skillful handicapper." Don writes: "You may want to add a sentence on the legality of this in Nevada. My understanding is that this is currently illegal."
My understanding of the legality of beards is different from Don's. I am not a lawyer, but I am under the impression that beards are like sex, illegal if done for compensation, and otherwise legal.
The applicable part of the Nevada Revised Statutes seems to be various subsections of 465.
NRS 465.092 says that "a person, alone or with others" shall not accept a bet except as allowed by NRS 465.094.
NRS 465.093 says that "a person, alone or with others" shall not make a bet except as allowed by NRS 465.094.
NRS 465.094 says "the provisions of NRS 465.092 and 465.093 do not apply to a wager placed by a person for his own benefit or, without compensation, for the benefit of another" so long as it is made with a licensed race or sports book within the state of Nevada.
Comments are welcome.
