MLS playoffs question

Here's what I have gathered : 8 teams play best of 3 in the first round. 4 teams play best of 3 in the second round. The two winners then play only one game to determine the championship. That just seems odd. Why would they only want to play one game for the MLS Cup instead of a best of 3? Is it because they are guaranteeing a championship game for tickholders and TV broadcasts?
