Recap 4-6 ATS WA, 5-5 personally but more about that later.
WIN Nebraska -8 Oklahoma – Yardage was there but RC Solich’s decision to make Lord into a passer and start the team mascot at tailback held the margin down. If you send a message to a player do it versus Utah State. Oklahoma State could not pass protect or stop the run as predicted but “they” did not follow with a line move on this one as it closed -.5 from what I bet it at. Nebraska has a talent deficit and the special teams look shaky which is a sign of it. I overestimated Nebraska but I had the match up edge and got out.
WIN Vanderbilt +13 Mississippi – I predicted this game would go to the wire and it did. Mississippi is overrated in my opinion (line of scrimmage) and they might be trying to hard to a trophy for the Manning family. Took +14 saw +12.5.
LOSS K State -37 Troy State – Total domination as Troy State would score a key safety off punt and a field goal off a fumble at the 20. The safety was huge because up 22 Synder strangely goes for 2 and misses instead of kicking the extra point. At halftime Colin, deeply worried this his wager was in doubt, marshaled a “Native American rain dance” as K State only scored 7 points in the second half in a huge downpour, Ell threw two interceptions inside the Troy State 30 and 10 yard lines in the second half. K State kneeled at the Troy State 15 with :40 to go. Colin, 2-0 fading K State and big numbers in 2003! Congrats and I hope you waited for the +38 or grabbed the 37.5 I gave you.
WIN Virginia Tech -20 Central Florida – Looked like a rout then VT relaxed before the final flurry versus a gassed defense. We all won here. +21.5, -18 to -20. I am very impressed with UCF’s team and coach.
WIN Florida State -16.5 North Carolina – Matt Millen and his young, disorganized team were no match for a focused Florida State. UNC front seven is in shambles, the primary reason why I played it when it also aligned with what the computer spit out. Took -15 here.
Then the bad handicapping begins…
LOSE Central Michigan +34 Michigan – CMU had over 300 yards of offense but only got seven points after two turnovers inside the 20. SteveY tried to warn me. Carr OBVIOUSLY knew the spread, 4th and 1 at the goal line late, late 3rd he runs it instead of kicking a field goal. Then OBVIOUSLY knowing the spread Carr lets his second team quarterback throw passes down the field versus a gassed CMU defense to go up 38, when the 3rd team QB went in, he shuts down, run, run, run when this kid transferred here and might have liked to throw a couple of passes around. Carr poured it on versus his best buddy but hey, “gotta cover the 38 because once I get in conference play I will sit on the ball and lose a few I should win.”
LOSE Maryland -8 N Illinois – Laid 7, had the best of it when it went to -8. I knew how I would lose this game, McBoob would have terrible game, 120 or so yards. I counted on Fridge to have his team ready and he apologized to his team after the game for letting things slide. Superior team, bad spot for a sketchy quarterback. Poor handicap. Looking back at it, McBoob sucked versus class last year.
LOSE Clemson +3 Georgia – UGA cluster injury was a big driver and also I considered Clemson a desperate team, which is nice given points. In fact, both desperate teams got crushed (Miss St) and there was even a big move on Miss State to +3. I did not trust them. The problem here is the fact Clemson was playing against an elite run defense. This should have been a no play with every computer number in the world on UGA.
LOSE Auburn -3.5 USC – Now I am playing against an elite defense with a DOG team LAYING points. I know better than that. I should be shot. Colin, my buddy played the Auburn total down which forced your OVER play, of course books are running scared. I knew when he played that total under I was in trouble.
I can live with the Central Michigan loss but the other three are just poor handicaps. More patience from me in the future on Week 1 (less plays).
Final WA LOSS, Personal WIN
North Texas +33.5 Oklahoma – I took the good number, with these books running scared any amount of money will move these small board teams if you bet early and they play faces. I took +35, they made it +33.5 and the world got +33.5. Simple as that, it closed +29. Oklahoma could not run, but they punched one in during the final minutes. Hindsight, bad play with any of these crap teams not getting more than +38. These Monroe’s, North Texas’, Central Michigan’s, New Mexico State’s playing an elite offense or defense are dead in the water. Fading a team like A&M with just a very good offense or defense might be okay but I will not likely be involved here in the future in week 1. Sorry about the loss guys, but someone else would have moved it to +33.5 if I had not done so.
