OSU

Even if OSU is better than last year with an easier schedule, a couple losses will come. Every year you can look back at the national title winner and find a game where they got a break and got bailed out, had a game that could have gone either way or at the very least, were not the better team that day. OSU had 7! They could have easily lost to Cincy, Wisconsin, Penn St, Purdue, Illinois, UM, and Miami(not even counting a very poor effort vs NW). Best team last year? No, just very fortunate. I give them full marks for taking advantage when they got the opportunity, but they got more breaks than any team has in a long time. The fact is outside their RB's, they still have no offense. Krenzel is a joke. He won two games throwing up what pretty much looked like Hail Mary's, and was saved by his defense after throwing a terrible interception around mid field late in the Penn St game. OSU is the poster child for a team winning a title and suddenly thought of as some great team that has fallen from the heavens. Their numbers were comparable to their team two years ago when they were 8-4(actually worse defensively except for scoring ave). The only team I can remember that got even close to this many breaks was the 2001 Chicago Bears, a 9-7 team masquerading as a 13-3 team. 2002 was their wake-up call. OSU will have a solid season, but I'd be shocked if they don't have at least 2 losses.
You think UM is young and untested? What side of the ball? Their OL is one of the best in the nation, their receiving core is solid, big and fast. Joppru is the biggest loss there, but they seem to reload every year at TE. They have depth problems at TB right now, but Chris Perry is a load. David Underwood should get more playing time this year and he is another load. This could be his showcase year preparing to take the load from Perry next year. Navarre put together a great 2nd half last year and if he continues on that pattern, they have no problems there either. On defense, their DB's are among the best group in the country, with 2 tough CB's in Marlin Jackson, possibly the best cover corner in the nation, and Jeremy Lasueur, who can fly. Both are 6'1, so they will be tough to go over as well. The safeties are a little inexperenced, just like OSU, but wait until you see Ernest Shazor. He is a monster at FS. They had 4 LB's hurt last year, all with starting experience, and can go 6 deep there. Add Pierre Woods to that mix, and they are big and fast at the LB spot. Their front 4 are all seniors, with experience, 2 starters, 2 reserves from last year. I wouldn't exactly call this a young and untested team. Their schedule helps them as they aren't overloaded with September home games, but their toughest games are at home. They have a home game before the MSU game and a week off after. No Wisconsin or Penn St this year either.
