In Response To: I concur once again, I appreciate the banter (Ben)

I'm not disappointed he lied about the money, but when the Feds came calling, you need to fess up to them. You can't bullshit with them. I'm also not sure it was really a "loan" either. Those type of payments generally aren't expected to be paid back. They may expect some fringe benefits down the line, but usually straight payback is not. The biggest two problems are the NCAA and people like Ed Martin, people who hang around playgrounds, hang around schools, looking to throw money at kids to influence their decisions. They have no ties to the school outside of being a huge fan. Schools can't do anything about these guys, and every school, big and small, has guys like Ed Martin hanging around. The NCAA doesn't help matters. They worry as much about their little bullshit rules as they do about guys like this. Half the rules the NCAA has should be thrown out. For example, when I was playing baseball at WMU, the GM of the Detroit Tigers was Bill Lajoie, an alumnus. Lajoie and Sparky Anderson were good friends with our head coach. Our spring trip home base was Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, home of the Tigers spring training. While we were practicing or playing, our coaches kid got to hang out with Sparky, Lajoie, Ernie Harwell, Al Kaline, etc. Toward the end of our season, Lajoie would send us tickets to a Tiger game. We would take a bus over to Detroit. The NCAA informed us that taking a school owned bus was a rules violation, as was getting the tickets from someone from the university. We got a slap on the wrist and lost one scholarship for one year. Now the questions are, why the hell are those rules in the first place? What great benefit did we actually get out of it? How much time did they waste on something that is very very minor in the first place? Why did it take them 8 years to decide it was a problem? The NCAA rules committee are the biggest bunch of idiots in sports.

On Michigan St, their biggest problem is they have been so far behind UM in football for the last 25 years, they usually get whatever UM doesn't want in this state. Whenever MSU wins the in state recruiting battle, it is usually because the in state talent doesn't match what UM is looking for that year. UM destroys them out of state every year. If you had a choice of schools, would you rather do somewhere where it is almost a given that you will go to 3-4 NY day bowls during your time, play on national TV almost weekly, play in front of 110,000 every home game, play a tough schedule almost every year and 8-3 is considered a disappointment, or play somewhere where you may get 2-3 bowls during your stay, hopefully one on NY, and 7-4 is considered a very successful season? MSU fans are hilarious. They talk shit early on, then the UM game comes up, they get drilled and they disappear until basketball season. They are the biggest closet fans in the country. UM fans don't base our season on their game, our rivalries are OSU and ND, not MSU.

On the UM crowd, I'm not sure the lack of noise has anything to do with who gets the prime seats(I have pretty good seats and I am only 34:) ) or the early start times. It does get pretty loud at times(not much, but at times), if you are in the stands, but I was told that unless you are inside the 15-20 yd line, it has little effect on the field. I don't think the stadium holds sound well. Crisler Arena is another story. The seats are very comfortable, why would you want to get up.:)
