...i use the whole year...but i don't use the previous year. see twominutewarning.com for a good analysis on it...they have had good records in picking NFL games, but they noted that when they used the previous years stats for the current year, the pick was actually a good contrarian pick.

for this reason, i don't start using my numbers to pick sides until week 6 or so...but in week 16, I will continue to use the whole years numbers, unless there's been a big drastic change, such as a big injury or a big addition (though this happens more in baseball and rarely in NFL).
