Avoiding detection is important. I only play blackjack on vacation, not many hours. Due to my rustiness, vacation distractions, and (former) youthful appearance I haven't gone above moderate black chip spreads. In other words I prefer the safety, ease and anonymity of recreational levels. Guys who play purple ($500) chips get heat fast. So they need to use a smaller spread and play with a thinner edge. In contrast a vacation player can compensate for poor ability with a large spread. And he doesn't need to "plan" short sessions since they are scheduled around meals and other activities anyway.

I don't think you can play higher in poker than in blackjack unless you have access to soft private games. It must be very tough to make $100 per hour at poker. Poker is riskier, so a $40-$80 game is like spreading $25-$200 at blackjack. Blackjack is more convenient. Unless you live next to a poker room you can't play short convenient sessions. But you can jump into a hot blackjack shoe for 10 minutes on your way to the buffet (one of many wonging trips). This would be the equivalent of jumping into a $100-$200 game just after the blind and then leaving before your blind.

Geez, we finally have a sports page and talk about blackjack here!
