Year after year, MAC teams "upset" the big boys and the media, who can't seem to remember what happened 3 weeks ago much less the year before, call them all upsets. Bettors ride the favorites in these "meaningless" non-conference games because they hear people call them warm up games. The Eastern Michigan's that pop up at the bottom of the conference hurt the national image, but the big boys can usually play with any team in the country outside the top 10-15, with a few teams being top 10 type teams.

Also, when they get into conference games, knowing the conference can help because it is just like any other conference, some mad/mediocre teams have always given certain good teams problems. Like the Big 10, where Minnesota always seems to give teams problems in the Dome, and a team like Illinois almost always gives UM problems, a team like Ball St has always given Toledo problems, especially in Ball St. Toledo comes in a big favorite last year, people like Toledo, they are a great team, the line keeps going up and Ball St wins outright. Knowing who has given who problems works the same in every conference, no different in the MAC.
